Philippians 4:11 NIV
INDEPENDENCE
As we struggle and claim personal independence
Surely we should appreciate the gains we have made.
Reflect, relax, appreciate our freedom.
In the midst of our striving for more,
Why not pause to refresh our perspective
Acknowledge, consider, lament over another
While we exercise and extend our independence
There exist others who are losing it.
Sometimes slowly, other times suddenly, mostly unwillingly
We have such a one in our home, in our care
After 94 years, her very self is robbing her of independence
Involuntarily the basics, what to eat, what to wear defaulted to others.
Once in a while as you awaken, washup, dress and get ready for the day
As you sit down and eat your first meal
Why not give thanks for your independence.
