A sight quite common in Jerusalem and Israel, but not so much here in North America, is the abundance of stones – stone roadways, stone buildings, and the many ruins we visited with stone walls, stone arches and stone structures. On January 31st, I attended an internship fair for my graduate counseling program. As a third-year graduate student, I have grown accustomed to a certain amount of heightened anxiety and stress. After I attended that fair on January 31st however, I learned that my stress level could actually rise even higher. There were several classrooms packed with representatives from various internship sites accompanied by their colorful and information-packed poster boards. They answered questions, they let us ask questions, they gave us contact information, and we gave out cover letters and resumes. (more…)

But having worked in secular industry and having friends in all sorts of jobs, I know that stress comes in all shapes and sizes.

Those of us who grew up in California don’t experience seasons too much. Having beach weather in January is a beautiful thing, but we definitely don’t seem to handle any changes in our climate very well. Raindrops fall and chaos erupts on our freeways. Constant vents about the wet and the gloom can be heard everywhere, and most people yearn for the moment when the sun will shine again and we will go back to our normalcy. (more…)

I signed my name to the Open Letter to Evangelicals written by Kathy Khang and Helen Lee during Rick Warren’s Chinese Red Guard Facebook debacle and the ensuing responses. It was refreshing to finally have united Asian North American (ANA) Christian voices break the silence and name the offenses. ISAAC EXPRESS, in part, was propelled by the debacle to sustain ANA Christian voices. This online forum aims to provide a communal space where ANA Christians address the challenging issues we face at the many intersections of identity and faith in the North American social matrix. I work at a youth residential detention facility with undocumented unaccompanied minors. They are boys under the age of 18, mostly from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, who have been detained at the border as they try to enter the United States without proper documents. Some have been drug or sex trafficked but most of them cross on their own hoping to be reunited with their parents or relatives. (more…)
